Windowbox Gardening

This is my window box ca. April 17th

This is a post full of bad pictures that I snapped at night. Update post coming shortly, since the plants have kind of exploded since I took these pictures.

A month or so ago, Tim and I built a window box. I’d been waiting with baited breath for our new windows to be installed so we could jump on this project while it was still planting time. It’s made out of some watersealed pine boards, some screws, and a lot of caulking. It measures 13’x7″. It’s an odd size, but it’s infinitely better than the previous attempts at windowsill gardening with pots. The box isn’t quite finished yet, the outside will eventually be painted the same color as the window trim.

The pot sitting in front of the box has 3 tiny grapefruit trees in it that we started growing on a whim last year.

In the box is (right to left):

It’s probably a bit ambitious, but everything is growing really well thus far! With the exceptions of the jalepenos and lettuce that haven’t sprouted. Here are some of my seedlings/plants:

cilantro

basil

chives (which look like tiny leeks)

leeks (which look like giant chives)

the baby crookneck squash. I'm so stoked for fried squash later this year!
