About Paul Barrett

Paul Barrett is the founder of Extreme Combat Self Defense Systems. Paul worked in Executive Protection as a bodyguard. He has over 30 years experience as a Martial Arts Instructor and owned his own Martial Arts Schools. Paul is also a Combat Firearms Instructor.

Paul's father was a semi-pro boxer and military firearm instructor. At the age of 5 years old, his father started teaching Paul the science of boxing and how to defend himself, and how to shoot firearms. He also enrolled Paul in various martial art programs as a child. At the age of 7 year old, Paul owned his own .22 pistol and .22 rifle.

Paul had a good childhood but lived in a rough neighborhood. With his cousins he started an adventurous motorcycle club that eventually turned into a 1% outlaw biker club.

The school yard fights as a child, eventually started turning into violent and serious street fights. In a one week period of time, Paul was involved in 8 street fights. Through the years, Paul fought in hundreds of street fights. Many of the fights involved knives and other weapons; including guns.

Paul's older cousin Sonny became a well established drug kingpin. Through his acumen at drug dealing, Sonny became affiliated with the Chicago mob, also known as the mafia, or outfit.

With the drug money, Sonny started buying properties including several six flats. One of the apartment buildings he converted into a party house. Our small outlaw biker club started riding and partying with the Devils Disciples, and the Chicago Outlaws. What started out as fun and adventure, kept turning darker and darker.

At one point Sonny introduced Paul to the head bodyguard for the mob. Paul's job was to help protect the bosses. This eventually lead to his first gun fight.

It was at about the age of 24 that Paul started turning his life around. He started attending a junior college, where he met Susan who became his wife. He started taking care of his health and began importing the highest quality foods from around the world.

At this time, Paul searched the world for the best martial arts instructor. That is how he found Master Chang. Master Chang is a master of masters. He is a master of internal strength and a traditional martial art's master with generational roots that led to an effective combative art; highly effective in the street.

For over 12 years Paul studied Hapkido, and Ki Exercise and Meditation, under Master Chang. Paul was an instructor at his Master's martial arts school and eventually owned his own martial arts schools.

Under the influence of Susan and Master Chang, Paul's life completely turned around. He became a model law abiding citizen who contributed to society. Paul was saved by Grace.

In his school, Paul taught black belts from other schools, bouncers, repossession men, bounty hunters, bodyguards, and law enforcement. It was a tough combative school that taught self defense street fighting methods. Paul's past experience in street fighting and his expertise in boxing, kick boxing, and martial arts, makes him one of the nation's most qualified instructors in street defensive techniques.

At his school, Paul traded skills with several of his students. One of Paul's students owned an executive protection agency. Paul became a legitimate bodyguard. Another student was a state law enforcement firearms instructor who taught at police departments around the state. Paul integrated combat pistol, shotgun, and rifle into his martial arts school.

Paul is involved in many charitable efforts and has worked with kids in high crime urban centers. He has also taught self esteem to convicted criminals in lew of them being in jail. As a law abiding citizen who cares about people, he is able to reach young men and teach them that crime literally does not pay. Paul believes that every kid is good at heart and only needs attention, love, and guidance.
