Nonlethal Weapons

There are instances where employing a lethal weapon may be considered excessive force. You may also face a situation where hand to hand defense is not your best option. Between the continuum of hand to hand techniques, and lethal force, is the employment of nonlethal weapons.

Nonlethal weapons are those that are not intended to cause death or grave bodily harm. One of the most common examples of a nonlethal weapon would be pepper spray.

The weapons that I recommend and teach people how to use include the following: pepper spray, stun guns, expandable batons, tactical flashlights, tactical pens, and more.

Keep in mind that all weapon systems have pros and cons, including nonlethal weapons. Also note, that every weapon and tactic is best suited, and works best, for a specific situation. For example, if you are a women at a nightclub and a drunk man grabbed a private part of your body, would you be justified in poking out his eye with a tactical pen? Obviously not. Would you be justified in shooting him? Obviously not. In fact, in most states, carrying a concealed weapon into a nightclub is not legal.

If the drunk man continued to paw you, would a knee to the groin be justifiable? Possibly yes. Would zapping him with a seven million volt stun gun be a better option? Maybe. Depending on the circumstances and the law, it might be the correct thing to do.

Applying a stun gun could theoretically result in a state of incapacitation without further risk to you. If you had no other means of stopping the person and no one offered assistance you might be justified. However, if you were able to obtain the assistance of the nightclub's security or bouncer, then you might not be justified in applying any force at all.

In our course, we teach when and how to deploy various types of nonlethal force and whether they are justified.  In any self defense encounter there are legal considerations to be weighed, even when you use nonlethal weapons. Most of the methods we teach assume you are in a life threatening situation. Nonlethal weapons are most useful in less serious scenarios.

One problem in a real life encounter is that events happens very fast with little time to think of alternative forms of defense and which weapons to employ. The training you receive in Extreme Combat teaches you to be aware, alert, and ready to react before danger strikes. In many instances, using a nonlethal weapon might be your best strategy. In other instances, a nonlethal weapon may be useless in stopping an attack.

In Extreme Combat we teach a wide variety of nonlethal weapons, including pepper spray, stun guns, tactical pens, expanding batons, and many other weapons and techniques. We also teach edged weapons (knives), and firearms and how to apply lethal force in order to save your life.

In the Extreme Combat Self Defense Systems, great emphasis is placed on how and when to employ hand to hand techniques and nonlethal weapons, as well as, when and how to transition to lethal force using either an edged weapon or a firearm.

The mission of Extreme Combat is to keep you safe using any and all means including H2H, nonlethal, and lethal weapons. You will be taught what you need to know to defend yourself in any circumstance. Our courses prepare you to be prepared for a life threatening encounter in the least amount of time and with minimal effort.

It is also important, that once you know how to defend yourself, that you continue to train and practice. You must also know the limitations, the pros and cons, and the effectiveness of whatever force you choose to employ when facing life threatening danger. For instance, it would be highly foolish to grab your stun gun if you were facing multiple opponents and they were brandishing knives. Even pepper spray would be inappropriate in that situation.

Being well rounded, well trained, and well armed is a balanced approach that will keep you safe in a multitude of perilous situations.

There is a time to escape, a time to employ H2H, a time to use a nonlethal weapon, and a time to use the most lethal force you can muster. The goal is to be ready and to be competent to make the right choice and take the right course of action. Extreme Combat will teach you how!

Nonlethal Weapons

Nonlethal weapons are an integral part of Extreme Combat. You will be taught how to integrate them into your self defense skills.

The weapons that are taught include tactical flashlights, personal alarms, pepper spray, stun guns, tactical pens, expandable batons, and more.

Owning these weapons is not enough. You must know how and when to best use them. In our self defense courses, intensive instruction will be given. You will know the pros and cons of each weapon, and the tactical use.

In Extreme Combat all instruction is given under the assumption that you will employ them in a life and death situation that is deemed legally justifiable.
