Combat Effective Shooting
In Combat Effective Shooting™ the objective is to be able effectively employ a weapon to defend one's self; in a perilous or life threatening situation. The skills and principles of weapon employment, that we teach, all center on being able to neutralize a violent threat while under pressure. Combat Effective Shooting is not a sport, or competition style of shooting. It is purely self defense in application; with its purpose dedicated to saving lives.
To be effective, in a life threatening self defense scenario, you must realize that there's a major difference between simply shooting a gun, and actually fighting with a gun. In combat self defense training, you need to operate your gun to the point of developing muscle memory, and subconscious effectiveness. Reaching the point where effectively shooting a firearm is a natural reaction, comes from correctly applying the fundamentals, and practicing until you are subconsciously and consciously competent. To reach that point you need a complete system that is based on self defense tactics and training.
I learned to shoot guns as a young boy. My dad was a firearm instructor in the Navy and taught everything from .45 handguns, to the big guns on battleships. In my martial arts school, I traded skills with a police firearms instructor. Through the years, I have continued to develop my skills through additional lessons, and consistent training and practice. I am thankful to the many people that have helped me improve my skills.
Always keep in mind that combative firearm training is an ongoing process. Taking a few tactical courses, and failing to continue practicing will not improve your skills. All self defense skills are perishable including firearm training. To improve and remain competent, you must continue to train and practice.
Over the past 25 years I have worked on developing a combat method of shooting that is easy to learn and effective. In my martial arts schools, I integrated combat pistol, combat shotgun, and combat rifle/carbine into the Extreme Combat Self Defense System. The shooting course I developed out of experience, I call Combat Effective Shooting™*.
Combat Effective Shooting will help you progress from shooting holes in paper, at your local gun range, to being effective when operating a gun in a real life self defense scenario.
In the Combat Effective Shooting™ course you will learn to draw your weapon, achieve combat accuracy, develop speed, and apply life saving tactics. You will shoot well known evaluation exercises and drills including the Mozambique, El Presidente, as well as less familiar exercises. The objective is to get you combat ready for defending yourself in a life and death encounter. The goal is to be an effective shooter when faced with a threat.
Unless you have acquired a proficient level of marksmanship, attending any combat style shooting course, including Combat Effective Shooting, would simply be a waste of ammo and time. I recommend that you start with the basics. Learn to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run. There's a lot to learn before you take a combat style shooting course.
If you jump into any combat shooting course before having a proficient level of basic marksmanship skills, you will waste ammo, time, and be very frustrated. It is also a drag on others in the class. Many shooting instructors don't care and will simply take your money. They also charge a hefty fee for their disservice. Yes, there are a lot of charlatans in the self defense industry.
You can learn a lot at a local gun range, and dry firing at home by properly practicing basic marksmanship. Learning self defense combat shooting is a step by step process of building upon your basic marksmanship skills.
If you are a relatively new shooter with little combat shooting skills, it is recommended that you attend one of our basic courses before contemplating a more advanced course.
The principles of Combat Effective Shooting center on being effective as well as legally justified.

Real World Effectiveness
Whether you own a firearm for personal protection, or to protect your family and home, you need to be effective.
How you train is how you will react in a life threatening situation.
Shooting at static targets at your local gun range is not combat shooting. It does not prepare you for the real world.
In the real world, you will be moving, the target will be moving. In the real world, you will need to draw fast and get your weapon on target.
Speed and accuracy are key components of Combat Effective Shooting. The skills taught in my combat courses are based on fundamentals.
If you do not have a grasp of the basic fundamental of shooting, you will be wasting your time, money, and ammo if you attend any type of combat course. This applies to my course as well as others.
Unfortunately, there are instructors who will simply take your money, even if you are not prepared for a combat course.
My advice is not to waste your money on a combat course until you have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of marksmanship.
Take one of my basic courses and let me evaluate your skill level. I will issue you a credit that you can then apply to one of my Combat Effective Shooting* courses.
